Australasia’s leading vehicle safety advocate, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP)today announced a 5-star safety rating for the Skoda Yeti sports utility vehicle.

The Skoda Yeti SUV 5-star rating is based on ANCAP assessments from crash tests by EuroNCAP. The Skoda Yeti has seven airbags as standard.

ANCAP also released a 4-star rating for the 2011 Toyota HiAce van.This 4-star rating applies to vehicles built from 17 September 2011, when improved protection for drivers’ knees was introduced.

Toyota’s progress on a safety upgrade for its vehicle fleet continues, with the announcement today by the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) of a 5-star safety rating for the Toyota Tarago people mover.

ANCAP Chair, Lauchlan McIntosh, said Toyota had upgraded the Tarago in October last year – introducinga driver knee airbag, Electronic Stability Control and side curtain airbags as standard – and the people mover was recently subjected to an ANCAP pole test.

Australia’s leading independent vehicle safety advocate, the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), today congratulated the Federal Government for its decision to require Commonwealth fleet passenger car purchases to have a 5-star ANCAP safety rating from July this year.
The decision will also affect purchases of light commercial vehicles, which will require a minimum 4-star ANCAP rating from July 2012.

Victorian parents can ensure their children have the best crash protection following the release of a guide that rates child restraints.

The 2011 buyer’s guide compiles the results of the Child Restraint Evaluation Program (CREP) that has tested and rated 83 child restraints for different ages. It gives each child restraint a star rating for protection and ease of use, with 5 stars being the highest rating attainable for each category.

The guide titled “Child restraint safety ratings” is supported by two Victorian road safety authorities, RACV and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
