Tis the Season to Buy a Safe Car

21 DECEMBER, 2011

Holiday-makers looking to buy a safe car have had their job made easier this week by the latest Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) announcements.

The Toyota Yaris (3 and 5-door models) and the Mercedes Benz C-Class Coupe were both awarded the sought-after five-star safety rating.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mini Countryman and the Range Rover Evoque were assessed at 4-stars and their manufacturers were urged to quickly improve their rating to 5-stars by ANCAP Chairman, Lachlan McIntosh.

“ANCAP 5-star ratings are now the standard and it is quickly becoming the case that even a good 4-star rating may not be good enough in the competitive market,” Mr McIntosh said.

“The holiday period is typically a time when consumers will look to buying a new or used car.

“ANCAP 5-star rated cars are a must on the Christmas shopping list this year.”

TAC Chief Executive Officer, Janet Dore, said the holiday period was a popular time for Victorians to purchase new cars.

“If you are looking to buy a new car before the end of the year, or early in 2012, we remind you to buy the safest model in the class and if you are looking for help visit http://www.howsafeisyourcar.com.au to see how your car stacks up,” Ms Dore said.
